Privacy Policy

Who we are

SafeBoomers.com is a service provided to our communities to educate and assist with digital privacy and protection of your information, and for sharing your experiences to help others avoid privacy and other digital fraud. Our website address is: https://www.safeboomer.com. You may reach us on our Contact page any time to answer questions and provide guidance. If we don’t have the answer, we will connect you with someone who does!

Comments

When our visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to help spam detection. This information is stored for a short period to protect us from hackers.

If you choose a default avatar from this site, or add a personal photo to your Gravatar, an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (or avatar) is visible to the public in the context of your comment. If you do not wish for your profile photo to be published, please choose a default avatar instead.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. As with any website, visitors can download and extract any location data from images on the website. For your safety and security, please remove any “meta data” from your photos, prior to uploading.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in “cookies”. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. However, if you do not want the site to collect this information, just opt-out. We will never sell your information!

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. Make sure to close all tabs in your browser after visiting ANY site.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will remain active for two weeks. When you log out of your account after use, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just published or edited. This cookie expires after 24-hours.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. However, this information is kept for internal uses and will never be sold to a 3rd party.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Again, your personal data is private to this site and the hosting account which hosts the website, and will never be sold to a 3rd party.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained for a minimum of 120 days. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue for subsequential approval. All posts are archived after 120 days.

For all users who register on our website to post a comment or participate in the community forum, we also store the personal information provided in your user profile for as long as you have an active profile. All users can see, edit, or delete personal information at any time (except your username). Our website administrators can also see and edit that information. Your account can be completed deleted by contacting support@safeboomer.com.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Please email us at support@safeboomer.com with your name and telephone contact so we can reach out to you to confirm deletion of your account.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments will be checked through an automated spam detection service. If we see that your comments contain false, misleading or harmful information, your account will be suspended until further review. If our findings show that you have violated our policies, or the policies of responsible community communications, you can be banned from posting in the future. If you feel your posts/account has been suspended unfairly or without warrant, please contact us at support@safeboomer.com
